Write Like You Mean It

Being a Full-Time Writer Without Writing Full Time

with Jess Michaels

It may have happened to you. You’re excited about a book. You want to finish it. You have the passion, but then… it just doesn’t get written. So many authors putter along writing here and there, a page or a two a week or even a month and their story just never gets written. Or maybe you’re writing more than that, but you want to take your output to a new level.

This workshop gives practical advice and tips on how to write like you mean it and increase your output. Whether you have ten minutes a day or you really are writing full-time and just can’t seem to get organized, this is the workshop for you.

Part 1: The roadblocks that stop us.
Michaels will break down the subtle ways we let others sabotage us… and the ways we sabotage ourselves. You may recognize some of your own bad habits and writing time enemies in this section. Here we’ll discuss passion, chasing the market, outside influences and more.

Part 2: Strengthen Up.
In this section, Michaels discusses frank ways to overcome those roadblocks. Everything from egg timers to taking responsibility will be covered.

Part 3: The rewards of full-time writing.
With new tools and a new outlook in place, Michaels will discuss the many benefits of increasing daily and monthly page output and leaves the audience with her own advice on writing like you mean it.

Join USA Today Bestselling author Jess Michaels for this informative workshop on increasing your writing output and finishing more books a year.

Jess Michaels is a USA Today bestselling author of nearly 70 books. She began writing full-time in 1999 and was first published by Avon HarperCollins in 2005. Since then she’s written for traditional publishers, small presses and has been 100% indie since January 2015. She has been married to her high school sweetheart for over twenty years. They live in Northern Arizona and travel frequently all over the world.

Plot Party! @ Windmill LIbrary
Jun 16 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Plotting Party with the LVRW Tribe

Join us as we plot our way to success! Have an idea or a character in mind for a book that is driving you crazy? Are you in the middle of your novel and stuck? Are you thinking of writing your first book? If the answer is yes to any of these questions then bring your ideas to our June LVRW Chapter Meeting where we will work together to flesh out those ideas and get you started on plotting your novel.

No need to bring anything other than an open mind and the willingness to help others who’d like to share their own plotting ideas. We’ll provide some guidance on plotting, then we’ll break out into small groups for the beginner writer, intermediate and master levels. Share as you wish or just listen to others and soak up all the creativity. What are your hero and heroine’s greatest fears? What are their greatest desires? How does this create moving, believable conflict that carries your readers away? We encourage our seasoned published authors to attend and participate. When was the last time you exchanged plot ideas in a fun, creative environment with your peers?

As always, everyone is welcome!

Writing Multiple Series with Marie Force
Apr 20 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Writing Multiple Series Workshop

A series can be a great way to launch a career and hook readers on your writing. Keeping readers coming back for more while managing multiple titles, series and genres can be somewhat overwhelming without a clear strategy in mind. As the author of five New York Times bestselling series currently at various stages, Marie Force offers some secrets to keeping multiple balls in the air at the same time. This topic will be useful for authors who have several titles to manage and are looking to grow their following. Marie will share some of the tricks of what works for her and how she’s “trained” herself to write two—and sometimes THREE—books at the same time. Marie likes to say that a successful series is the gift that keeps on giving for an author!

This will be a half day workshop. Please come back later for more details on time and cost, or better yet, sign up for our newsletter!

Marie Force is the New York Times bestselling author of contemporary romance, including the indie-published Gansett Island Series and the Fatal Series from Harlequin Books. In addition, she is the author of the Butler, Vermont Series, the Green Mountain Series and the erotic romance Quantum Series. In 2019, her new historical Gilded Series from Kensington Books will debut with Duchess By Deception.

All together, her books have sold 6.5 million copies worldwide, have been translated into more than a dozen languages and have appeared on the New York Times bestseller list many times. She is also a USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestseller, a Speigel bestseller in Germany, a frequent speaker and publishing workshop presenter as well as a publisher through her Jack’s House Publishing romance imprint. She is a two-time nominee for the Romance Writers of America’s RITA® award for romance fiction.

Her goals in life are simple—to finish raising two happy, healthy, productive young adults, to keep writing books for as long as she possibly can and to never be on a flight that makes the news.
